How to pack and move a nursery

Moving is a stressful experience for everybody. It is time, money and energy-consuming. But, when the entire family is involved, together with small children, things can get even more complicated. Besides dealing with all the packing and relocating, you have to take care of your child’s needs and explain why this move was necessary in the first place. But, do not worry, with good communication and agreement with your family, as well as with proper planning, everything can be done in no time. So, without further ado, here are some tips and tricks on how to pack and move a nursery.

Have a Family Meeting

Many people believe that when moving this step is unnecessary. Or at least, it is necessary with older children only. But, they are wrong, trust us, this is the best way to help your child during the relocation processYounger children, like toddlers and preschoolers, need this family meeting the most. Like all young children, they probably do not know what is going on. They only see you, parents, coming to their room and taking away their stuff. Of course, this is not a pleasant feeling. So if you want to avoid all the meltdowns, have a talk with your child. Explain why this move is necessary. Then when the Grunts Move Junk and Moving Massachusetts movers come to your home, your child will be prepared.

Declutter Before Packing

One thing is for sure, the more stuff you plan on relocating, the more expensive the move will be. This is a normal thing as movers charge by the amount and weight of your stuff. So, it would be a good idea to first declutter everything and get rid of extra stuff before you move a nursery. So, when you decide to move a nursery, first prepare a lot of boxes, and then:

Start sorting things in this way:

  • Keep Pile – This is for all the thing that your child still enjoys like toys, books, plushes he or she still plays with. Also, place here all the clothes and shoes that still fit.
  • Donate Pile – Then, if your child has outgrown some clothing items, consider donating them to the charity organization. You can do the same with all the toys or book that are in good shape but your child does not enjoy them anymore.
  • Sell Pile – And, if you are on the budget, and you could you some money, selling some old and outgrown items is also an option. You can sell it online on some of your social media accounts, or simply organize a yard or garage sale.

Pack Non-Essentials First!

It goes without saying that decluttering and packing is a process that can last for a couple of days. And you can not just relocate your child to another room until the whole nursery is packed. Children need their toys and books. That is why you must pack gradually. So, when you want to move a nursery, start packing non-essentials first. That means to pack only the things that your child does not use on a daily basis. For example, pack those bigger toys, the clothes he or she does not use currently, pieces of furniture that are not of big importance and so on. You can have excess stuff removed from your home with the help of the movers, but whatever you do, leave your child’s favorite toys and books for the last-minute packing

Prepare a Lot of Plastic Wrap

You must make sure that all your child’s items are well protected. Not only to ensure that they arrive in one piece but also to prevent any bacteria on them. So, go to your hardware store or stationery shop and buy a lot of plastic wraps. It would be a good idea to wrap each toy separately before placing it in the box. Use plastic wrap for packing bedding, pillows, blankets and the mattress as well. You must make sure that these are completely covered as fabrics are susceptible to dirt, grime, and mildew when moving. Do not forget to label everything before you put it in the boxes. And again, leave your child’s favorite blanket and pillow for the last night in your home.

Pack Books Into Smaller Boxes

If you decide to use movers’ services when moving your household they will know that all the heavy stuff, like books, should be packed in smaller boxes and bins. If you put a lot of heavy items in one big box, you will have to do with a lot of heavy lifting, and also be exposed to the risk of boxes being ripped apart. So, keep that in mind when you start packing your child’s books, school supplies or any heavy stuff they have. So, use small boxes instead. Limit the number of heavy stuff you put in them. You can also involve your child in this process. If you make this packing a fun event, you will probably make them feel excited.

Disassemble What You Can

Of course, every nursery has a crib, a changing table, a closet, and some other furniture pieces. These things tend to be both really heavy and really delicate. So, do not try to move them in one piece. First, you may injure yourself, and secondly, you may damage the furniture. Thus, disassemble what you can. If you know how to do this by yourself, great! But, if not, better not to risk it and call somebody who knows. When everything is disassembled, wrap each piece in a plastic wrap to make sure that it won’t get damaged or scratched. Also, put all the screws and bolts in small zip bags. Do not forget to label everything.
